ATLAS server cleanup Print E-mail

Dear CIF Users,

The ATLAS file server is (not so) slowly reaching its storage limits. After a quick review, there is a large amount of files old enough to suppose they're been left on the server and forgotten by their creators.

This is the occasion to remind the storage policy on ATLAS:

ATLAS has always meant to be a TEMPORARY file server. Even if there's a backup of the data (without 100% guarantee), your files should only transit through this server. The maximum storage duration proposed by the CIF is 3 months. There is no guarantee whatsoever that your files will remain safe after this period.

Now this has been said, we still need to make room on the server for newer files. That's why we have decided to do a complete cleanup of the ATLAS user directory.

 Please note the following:

In two weeks from now, on Monday the 25th of June, we will remove all the files that have been created before the 1st of January 2010. There won't be any backup and you won't be able to recover these data.

You have two weeks to backup what you consider still valuable with your own tools.

Thank you for your understanding.

The CIF staff

PS: For those for are interested, here's a dump file that contains the list of all the files that will be removed. Warning ! This is a heavy file (226 Mb). I suggest to use Notepad++ to read it.
