New File Server at the CIF PDF

Dear CIF users,

We are currently in the process of migrating all our users to a new file server. This new server, ATHENA, based on Synology technology is more modern, robust, and has many more other advantages over the current system we use, ATLAS. The migration process will take time (several months at best), so you will be informed via email when your account has been processed.

The new server has a data cap of 15 GB per user, so those who already have more than that won’t be able to add data to their home folder on ATHENA until they make room for it.

Special accounts will be treated separately, on a case-by- case basis.

The seminar by Dr. Christian Feuillet will cover major approaches of tissue clearing and imaging of large transparent tissue samples using light sheet microscopy. This type of technology has recently been installed at CIF Epalinges and is accessible to CIF users.

ZEISS LSM 710 out of order at the Bugnon campus ***UPDATED*** PDF

Dear CIF Users,  the ZEISS LSM 710 confocal at the Bugnon campus is out of order until further notice.

The faulty piece of hardware has been identified, and a replacement part has been ordered. The repair is scheduled for this end of next week at best.

If you have urgent needs of confocal microscopy at the Bugnon, we still have the Leica SP5 running, but know it will soon be dismantled and replaced by another Zeiss confocal. Another option is to check if the offer at the Dorigny or Epalinges campus could suit your needs until the repair has been done. 

We apologize for the inconvenience.

 The repair has been scheduled for friday the 24th. The system should be back online on Monday.

The system has been restored and is now fully operational again. You can now book it and use it again as usual.

13 January 2015 : Confocal microscopy 
20 January 2015 : Modes of image formation, acquisition, signal sampling
27 January 2015 : Dynamic recording of cellular functions by fluorescence imaging.
Intracellular ion imaging and cellular signaling.
Problems related to imaging of living cells
3 February 2015 : Other optical applications (proposed topics):
Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP), UV flash photolysis, multiphoton microscopy, evanescent wave microscopy, fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), optical contrasting methods (phase contrast, DIC), super- resolution microscopy

Remarks:
 
- lectures will be given in English.
- in parallel with theoretical lectures, demonstrations will be proposed on the confocal microscopes of the Cellular Imaging Facility (details and registration on site).
- gives right to ONE credit for students of doctoral schools (FBM and neuroscience)
