We're sorry for the incovenience. We'll keep you informed as soon as we have updates on this system's status.

UPDATE : The Leica SP5 is up and running again. Blame windows updates on the servers for that.

Powerful new workstations about to land in you facility. PDF
Written by Yannick KREMPP
Tuesday, 14 February 2012

Here are the specifications of these new machines:

CPU: 2x Xeon X5550 2.6 GHz

RAM: 48 Gb RAM

GPU: Asus nVidia GTX580 DCII 1536 Mb

HDD (System): 2x SSD 120 Gb Raid 0

HDD (Storage): 1x HDD 2 Tb

Display: 24” Eizo Foris

OS: Windows 7 Pro x64

Each facility, at Bugnon, Dorigny and Epalinges, will be granted with one exemplar of this beafy workstation during this week.

These workhorses have been designed to deliver the best experience achievable for graphic and CPU intensive applications. Imaris (3D reconstruction and analysis), Huygens (Deconvolution), and even Photoshop will benefit from this raw power.

We encourage users willing to use these workstations to check their availability on the booking system, where they will appear under their respective names: KRAKEN-B, KRAKEN-D, and KRAKEN-E, in the image processing area.

(Disclaimer: even if image processing stations are free of charges, reservation is MANDATORY).

Users with less demanding projects are encouraged to use the "older" workstations, and leave the Krakens available for other studies.
We hope you'll enjoy these machines, and be sure to report any issue you may encounter to your local technical manager, or directly to Yannick KREMPP.
The CIF Staff.
Update: we have the first results ! Compared to the older workstations, a deconvolution using Huygens is now 60-80 times faster, literally turning the image processing time from an hour to a minute ! We hope you'll enjoy them.

Everything should be back to normal. You can again book, log in, and store your data on the server on your own.

A big thank you to the UNIL IT group  (i.e Vincent Roubaty), Lanexpert and Microsoft for their precious help.

We hope this issue hasn't caused you too much trouble, and again, apologize for the incovenience.

The CIF Domain is down ! PDF
Written by Yannick KREMPP
Sunday, 04 December 2011

Dear CIF Users

We have currently some serious issues with our domain controllers and the three sites are affected (BUGNON, DORIGNY, EPALINGES).

- Connections to ATLAS are down.
- Login in the CIF domain are impossible.
- Maybe other issues which are not mentionned here could occur.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and be assured that we try our best to fix these problems as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you have scheduled an experiment on our systems, please refer to the technician who's the only person who can open you a temporary session. You can also ask us to postpone your reservations.

 The CIF Staff.

UPDATE 05.12.2011 10h00

The UNIL informatics center and are currently monitoring the main UNIL controllers to find some clues about the crash. We are still investigating on the CIF side.

Please also note that this problem only affects the CIF domain.

 The CIF Staff.

UPDATE 05.12.2011 12h00

The login problems seem to affect only the Bugnon campus. The access to the servers still remains problematic for everyone.

 The CIF Staff.

UPDATE 05.12.2011 15h00

Correction: The login problems seem to affect also Epalinges since this morning and Dorigny since this afternoon.

UPDATE 05.12.2011 16h45

Time sync has been fixed, it was blocking the replication of the domain controllers. Trust relationship between AD and the CIF has been rebuilt. The login problem remains, and the issue has been transmitted to Microsoft.

UPDATE 05.12.2011 18h00

The UNIL IT, LANExpert and Microsfot are still working the issue. More feedback tomorrow at 10h00.

 The CIF Staff.

UPDATE 06.12.2011 10h00

Still working on it.

 The CIF Staff.

UPDATE 06.12.2011 14h00

The team is trying to revive our main domain controller, VULCAIN. This implies rebooting it quite often, and the side effect is this website  (although hosted on another server) might hang or block your connection. The authentication on the CIF website checks your ID against the user database (AD) stored on VULCAIN. So we can consider the booking system down as well.

 The CIF Staff.

UPDATE 06.12.2011 14h10

Temporary workaround found to solve the website authentication. The booking system should be available.

The CIF Staff.

FINAL UPDATE 06.12.2011 15h30

Problem solved !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone should be able to log in using their CIF credentials as usual. The website FTP access remains buggy, but it should be restored rapidly.

If you encounter any issues, please report to your local technical manger or directly to me: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
