New storage server is a go ! PDF

wow.jpgWhat is this all about?

ATLAS. This is a name you should keep in mind, as it is the name of the new server where you will have to store everything you acquire at the CIF.

ATLAS will replace both CIFSERVER and CIFDNASSERVER. Atlas has an 8Tb (that means 8000 Gigabytes) capacity.

Tuesday the 25th of March. During the Easter week-end preceding this date, CIFSERVER and CIFDNASSERVER will be disconnected.

What will change for you?

The access to CIFSERVER and CIFDNASSERVER will be canceled. But no worries! All your present data has already been duplicated on ATLAS.

You will store everything on ATLAS, regardless you are located at the Bugnon or at Dorigny.

The folder organization will remain the same: one folder per user.

Note that during the transfer process, all the special authorizations have been removed, so please just send me an email if you need some special authorization (like folders shared by several users, access from another domain).

The access from the CIF website will be simplified just click to “Your Data”, that’s all.

The access from the UNIL network will be:

\\ATLAS\CIF-USERS\ (just type this in the address bar of your explorer)

The access with an FTP client is also possible, and recommended for large data:

Port: 21
Login:  CIF\yourCIFlogin
Password: yourCIFpassword

What else?

The data safety will be the same as before, or even better if you consider that: ATLAS storage is built on a level 5 Raid Array composed by 14 750 Gb disks with hot-swap and hot-spare features. ATLAS is not alone! His twin brother, PROMETHEUS (not accessible for you) does a backup every night of everything that is stored on ATLAS.
